Well we found out what's wrong with Trey

I know I haven't posted much but he's been sick and getting sicker. He started getting bald spots and getting thinner so we did blood work on him.

He has hypothyroidism and fleas that are apparently immune to Frontline (joy). Supposedly dogs with allergies and hypothyroidism get it really bad so that's the reason his hair is thinning. We're relieved to finally know what's going on and that it's treatable.

I don't know if missed any other threads about Trey being sick, but I wish I'd seen them. Thyroid would have been the VERY first thing I would have suggested to check.

Millie, the sheltie I dog sit, started getting thinning/bald spots; turns out she has hypothyroidism. Four of the shelties I groom at work also have the flaky and balding spots. After talking with the owners they also have hypothyroidism. I'm seeing more and more Shelties with thyroid problems. Two more Eskimos are having the same problem.

I skipped over after reading your thread again and looked up the general health information on the sheltie. It actually says some lines are prone to hypothyroidism. I never knew that. huh

It's serious, but you can get it under control. I'm glad you figured out what's going on with Trey. He's such a gorgeous boy. Please keeps us updated on how he's doing. :)

One thing that really confused me is that Trey is underweight and we struggle to keep weight on him. I've always heard that hypothyroidism causes dogs to get fat easily.
