This is a small breed I would like to own one day Here's the website
http://carlins.info
they are so cute.

I don't have much to say about it except it's another hybrid...no different from the labradoodles, Buggs, etc...
If they want miniature Rottweilers, well, it's like trying to make a mini Clydesdale! Miniature horses came from breeding the smallest to the smallest...not outcrossing with another breed like a pony to make them small (pony features are major fault) - the idea of it is to have a small but purebred...
calling those mixes mini rottweilers is a misnomer because they are no part rottweiler...and I think that's ridiculous.

Nope we sure don't...after reading that site, what a bozo breeder. Who in their right mind will buy a mixed breed "mini rottweiler" that is no part rottweiler for $800...yes it says that's their starting price up to $1500...ahem, can we say BYB.

It is just another mixed breed dog with a fancy name. Until they begin to breed Carlin Pinscher to Carlin Pinscher and set a real breed type through years of breeding and record keeping, it will never be more than yet another mixed breed dog.
FYI scienctist quit using the term hybrid with regards to canines in 1992.

I agree with the above. This is just another "hybrid" mixed breed. These people are just mixing dogs (they are adding new breeds to the mix according to their site). This a BYB. If you want a Pug/Min Pin mix, I would check in shelters!

Yet another ignorant BYB who found that making dogs machines to pop out "RARE" puppies for money is a good thing for them to do, because of all the other ignorants out there that buy them for ridiculous amounts.

And there are perfectly good mutts in shelters everywhere... for half the frickin price...

Haha, jeez everyone is so harsh about it. He is not the only breeder for that hyrbid. I don't have a problem with hybrids. The name is misleading. I wouldn't want a mini rott because I actually thought it had the same characteristics to a real rott. All breeds came from some sort of cross breed before it became a breed in it's own right so I don't turn my nose to them. They are here and they are just as adorable and to be respected as any other animal. It's not their fault some human started breeding and selling them.

*Most* breeds were developed to DO something though. Protection, aid humans in hunting/retrieving game or dealing with vermin, guarding livestock, rounding up livestock and the like.

You are right that it isn't the dog's fault someone decided to breed two random dogs together and create a new "breed." It is the puppy buyers fault that people keep breeding random dogs together though. I have no issue with people charging a small fee (probably $100 top end) when they end up with "oops" litters. It helps ensure the pups are going to decent homes and hopefully funnels towards the spay/neuter fee of the parents. But to charge $800 for a dog they are calling a "mini rott" when it has no rott in it? WTH?

I did notice that at least they say they are health testing their breeding dogs. I've never seen anyone post it quite the way they did (CERF/OFA passed 100%) though.

Nobody is blaming the dogs. They are blaming the humans who are stupid enough to advertise their ignorant breeding programs. Yes all dog breeds start somewhere, but here is the problem: In most dog breeds form followed function. That is they were breeding for a specific characteristic such as strength, endurance, ability to herd, etc. These idiots are just breeding for looks. And combining breeds haphazardly to create it. In my mind that is a surefire recipe for disaster. And while the dogs are blameless in this process, it sucks that people will shell out money for these animals, which doesn't benefit the animal it benefits the BYBs and encourages them to continue their lunacy, meanwhile other blameless dogs are dying in shelters. There aren't enough homes to go around so those of us with homes to give should be discriminating about what kind of behavior we condone through our choices.

This "breeder" in question wants a lot of information to even contact them...they know they are wrong! Imagine how much hate mail they get for this...they won't even reply if yo udon't give them your phone #...what a bunch of garbage.
LMH you opened a can of worms with this - those dogs don't look anything like a rottie except they docked their tail and they are colored like a Min-Pin...their faces look like pugs...not Rotti's.
If people want mini-Rotties, I suggest they start a breeding program that starts with smaller stock and breed it downward...at least then it's purebred, and some poor schmuck isn't getting hosed for $800 because it "looks" like a Rotti.

Quite honestly, I would rather someone mix breeds for characteristics than try to "breed down" from smaller dogs. I'd rather have a "new" breed than a "ruined" old breed. And of course, some breeds claim to be bred down which are clearly mixes. More honest to admit it. (I can't say this cross appeals to me though)

I understand the reason of not buying from a BYB. I would rather find a mix in shelters. Dogs over the last i don't know how many years have been bred for companion other than function. Also breeding for function doesn't always outway breeding for companion and looks. Look at the bulldog. Poor thing has so many respitory problems due to breeding for them to have practically no nose so that they can bring down a bull originally. But yst we still breed for the "standard" even though I don't think people are using them to bring down bulls anymore-at least i hope not LOL.

I actually have two Carlins. They are amassing dogs. They are very smart and easy to train. My oldest one is an F1 which is a first generation of Min PIn/Pug. The name Carlin Pinshcer makes sense to me because in some countries Carlin means Pug. There are some breeders out there who I believe are very unscrupulous and advertise them as "mini rottss" I would run from any of those breeders. There are a few breeders out there that are trying to develop the breed and have several generations of Carlins. They are developing a breed standard and registry. We'll see how that goes. I just know I love the ones I have.

Without fail, any time this sort of thing is discussed, the breeder comes by to praise the dogs to high heaven, insult other breeders and then disappears into the night. lol

Well I am not a breeder. I got my first Carlin by happenstance. She was from a "surprise" litter. We love her so much that when my husbands old dog died we decided on another Carlin. So I spoke with many breeders in order to educate myself about the breed. I am just happy doing obedience and agility with mine. My oldest has her CGC and I am hoping to earn a CGC with my other one this spring.
