First of all I want to thank everyone for their comments to other questions I have asked. I enjoy reading the input and questions on all subjects.
Are Greenies nutritionally safe or harmful to dog organs. How about other dental chew bones.
Thanks Tweety

Greenies have a new manufacturer and a new formula. They DO dissolve in water. I saw them at a show a few weeks ago and they had them sitting in water and they dissolved completely. You can try it yourself.

Greenies, like any other chew toy (bones, balls, rawhide) need to be given with discretion and supervised at all times.

They are also a high calorie treat, and should not be given daily. Treats in general should not make up more than 10% of your dogs daily caloric intake, so that might be something to take into account when giving greenies.

Several dogs have died from Greenies, I would not feed them to your dog. They can cause intestinal blockages as can rawhide. You would be better off giving your dogs raw meaty bones or brushing their teeth a few times a week (at least three). Pet stores sell specific toothpaste for dogs (you can't use human) and toothbrushes (I use a finger brush). AGain, I would not feed Greenies to your dog they have been the cause of several deaths.

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (CNN) -- At least 13 dogs have died after being fed the top-selling pet treat in the country, owners and veterinarians have told CNN.

The problem comes because the treats, called Greenies, become lodged in a dog's esophagus or intestine and then some veterinarians say they don't break down

We give our dogs "greenies chips". Its just greenies in little chips, so they can chew them up right there. Its alot easier and safer than the actual greenies bone. I've heard that several dogs have died from greenies.
