So, Yuffie has taken to chasing cats, and I'm not worried about the cat, per say... I just don't want her to do it. The cat can hold his own.. I just do NOT want Yuffie to develope this into a habit. She has only done it a couple of times, but now everytime she see's Lynx, she chases him up or under something.

Help?:(

Yes, she is a Border Collie puppy. I think she may have picked it up from my parents dogs, because she didn't do it when I first got her.

I've caught her, told her to sit, and said NO in a really stern voice.

Then I took her up to the cat and let her sniff it. She doesn't try to kill it. Just likes chasing it:(

For people with cats, I usually suggest using baby gates around the house to give the cats "safe zones" if they want and need them. But you have a BC, which may attempt to jump a baby gate, still, it's worth a shot. And maybe it's partly her breed that is the reason she's after the cat a lot. She is a herding dog. ;) I'm sure with training and correction though, you can at least minimize the behavior.

And I wouldn't just be worried about the dog possibly injuring the cat, but the cat injuring the dog as well. My old dog Harley (a Rottie mix), got swiped by my cat when he was about 4 months old, and an inch higher, he would have lost his eye. It was lucky the claw only ended up cutting his snout. But, he did learn his lesson when it came to cats...LOL. Both of my cats are now declawed due to this, and have been raised with dogs since they were fairly young. And even though I'd never in a million years think my dogs would ever hurt the cats, I still never leave them alone together. You just never know. Just the dogs simply trying to play with the cats can cause an injury.

Well than I don't understand why you are asking for help. If you aren't always there to correct the behavior, it won't be corrected. If the dog is left outside to do as she pleases, of course she's going to take advantage of that.

Maybe it's lack of stimulation that's causing her to chase the cat. Since you aren't always there help her out with that, she's finding her own ways to occupy her time. BC's are highly intelligent, very energetic, and need to be physically and mentally exercised on a regular basis.

Can I ask why you have her as a strictly outdoor dog? Does she never get to be in the house at all?

I would prefer not to get in the discussion about her living arrangements.

But I will answer your questions.

Yuffie is a strictly outside dog. She is a 'farm' dog, and so far, loves it. She does not wander off of our porch(yet, I know she will as she grows) unless I go out, which is quite frequently. She gets plenty of mental and physical stimulation. We got on runs/walks twice a day, and play fetch all the time. For mental, we have at least 3 training sessions a day. Because she does not wander off of our porch yet, I always catch her chasing the cat. Sorry if I am confusing you:eek: I'm not good at explaining things:( .
