Hi everyone! I just joined today!
My fiance and I adopted an 11 week old beagle puppy, Lucie, a couple of weeks ago. She's cute and can be and an absolute sweetie. She's a quick learner, can already sit and come, sits for her food and water dish, sits MOST of the time at the door to our apartment. Incredibly friendly.
She had been sick, had worms and a cough but is doing much better now.
She does great in her crate, the first few nights were tough, but now it's not a problem. She'll go into her crate during the day, cry for a few minutes and then be fine. She's had a couple of accidents in it, but few and far between.
I'm a teacher, so I'm home all week long except for 2 afternoons a week when I tutor.
Potty training can be frustrating. As I mentioned, she's great in her crate. I take her out, she goes right away. In the apt we keep her on her leash to keep and eye on her. She will pee every 15-20 minutes when not in her crate. As I mentioned I keep her right with me when she's not confined. She'll squat right there. I scoop her up, run her out and she finishes out there. I praise her up and down. After she goes she looks right at me, almost like she's waiting for the treat.
When we go out, it's for about 10 minutes. She'll usually pee a couple of times. We go out for longer walks once or twice a day.
We crate her for 1-2 of hrs 3 or so times a day. I'm trying to have a schedule with her, we write down when she goes and eats and drinks.
Is that normal for her to be going every 20 minutes? I can't really see any signs that she's going to go yet.
Should we crate her more often? Ideas for a schedule?
Thanks!
Michelle
