I always wanted to teach Alki that, but she's too food obsessed, can't handle sitting still for that long. I'm working on it with Barclay though That really is the one that really gets the oooohs and aaaahs!
Maks will flip and catch it---I once hired a party act for my son't birthday that was upstaged by Mak's letting the kids put a bone on his nose, say take it, and then he would flip and catch the bone. Entertained the kids for as long as Mak would take the bone....a very long time!!
So true. Hindsight is my best friend. Maks is food driven....but not horribly food driven. Sit/Stay comes first, and then just take a bone and place it on the nose with a hand under the chin--my word is steady. At first I rewarded for steady, and then when I was able to remove my hand--I used wait--and rewarded---and then finally take it--the first few times it landed on the floor and then he could just catch it...and finally he got fancy with the flip for added applause. Maks is a clients dog, who spends a lot of time with me. He is unbelievable teachable. Really, its fairly easy and quick to teach and like I said, always the most requested trick---I know if times ever get to tough--there is a street corner in Chicago with our name on it!
