I really enjoyed reading this. I think a lot of people (usually people who don't put a lot of thought into training their dogs) just focus on the 'what' and the 'how', and don't think about 'why' something works (or doesn't work). Thanks for this- it's saved to my bookmarks. :p

Nice article! Just one little suggestion. Lose the word "retarded". I have a good friend with a mentally disabled daughter, and I know that word is considered to be very insulting. Sometimes a bit of political correctness is a good thing.
