Wow, it's been many years since I bought my last dog. I went on kijiji Pets and am appalled at the high prices and everything is done so differently now? Before when buying a dog, I would look in my local newspaper, call them up to view the dog and bring cash to pick it up and take it home. Now the prices are skyrocketing in our Province, money transfer has to be sent to hold the dog which is non refundable deposit, and then we have to travel 1 to 2 hours out of town to pick it up and drive 1-2 hours back at our expense.. The Shelter dogs are cheaper and you get your money's worth, but unfortunately all they mostly have are big puppy breeds and I can't have a big dog, only small to small medium, so that limits my choices. I hope I can find one that is reasonable and in the size I want.

Price is not necessarily indicative of value. There are breeders that I wouldn't recommend if they were the last breeder on earth that charge more than reputable breeders of the same breed.

I'm sure you are aware of this, but in Canada, it's against the law to sell a dog as a purebred unless it is registered with the Canadian Kennel Club.

Exactly there are very few that post their puppies come with papers. Most of them are for mixed breeds and say nothing, yet the prices are way up there? Quite a few puppy Mills have been closed down in recent years, but new ones are always cropping up? I'm not against independant breeders that only sell a few pups, but things get out of hand and sloppy when there are too many and they are overbred and overcrowded and the puppies health and development are affected.
