Is Diamond some kind of "umbrella" corporation?

I knew Canidae was connected with it somehow, but Solid Gold? Wellness? I know Diamond uses ethoxyquin in their fish products, I could have sworn Wellness was a different company that did not use ethoxyquin. Thought Solid Gold was, too.

I knew Taste of the Wild uses ethoxyquin, didn't know they were part of the Diamond brand as well.

So...am I missing something? Is there really just one dog food company out there that puts out all that food?

They aren't all owned by Diamond but Diamond owns the manufacturing plant that they are produced in. It is fairly common for dog food brands to not own their own manufacturing plants.

Unfortunately yes. All those brands are manufactured by Diamond. Wellness has three manufacturers, one of them being Diamond. The only ones I consider "Safe" now are Acana/Orijen, Earthborn, Fromm, Blue Buffalo( even though it's MEHHHH but at least it is not related to Diamond) and I don't remember the name of the other one. I just don't trust Diamond at all anymore.

Instinct is good, too, as is Innova Prime.

Yes, Diamond has their hand in all of the OP's listed companies. Sad... TOTW was a good relatively inexpensive, easy to find kibble in my area, but I don't trust it anymore. I'm now feeding Acana and also, Innova Prime (their new grain free, potato free kibble).

Not sure if I trust Innova, either, being owned by P&G :/. One is as bad as the other!

I have switched over to Acana Pacifica, my dog is doing great on it! I just don't trust any thing coming out of a Diamond plant. Now, that Innova is made by P&G I don't trust them either.

I'm still feeding Solid Gold because my variety isn't made by Diamond.

Which variety would this one be? I am still looking for rotation foods.

I bought BB Fish and Sweet Potato ... and my dogs are not thrilled with it.

Sun dancer... Their best variety by far, completely grain free. My girl loves it, but then she isn't a picky eater to begin with. It gets four and a half stars on dogfoodadvisor.com. Good luck!

Taste of the Wild does NOT use ethoxyquin, or buy fish preserved with it. That information is not difficult to find. Many companies do not have their own facilities and provide the ingredients and pay a company with facilities to produce it.

Not sure why you would trust Blue Buffalo if you are worried about recalls.

Ugh, agree. I guess this kind of blind panic thread is what Diamond gets when they do the right thing and issue a proactive recall like this.

Blind panic thread? Are you serious? I was wondering why the Diamond recall affected so many dog food brands. This was more of a "How do dog food companies work?" thread than a panic thread.

Last I checked, that information was impossible to find. Sounds like they must have changed everything up recently. Good news.

FWIW, Blue Buffalo recalled some of it's food awhile back b/c it realized it had put too much Vitamin D, I think, in some of its variteties of kibble, not b/c of samonella contamination. Unfortunately, some dogs got very sick from overdosing, and BB got some very bad press, deservedly. That issue has been fixed for quite some time now.

From the impossible-to-find TOTW website FAQ: "Taste of the Wild Pet Foods sources all protein meals (chicken meal, fish meal, etc) from vendors that do not use ethoxyquin. As always, only natural preservatives are used in our manufacturing process to preserve the foods." Those natural preservatives are things like vitamin E.

I believe they made this switch in early 2011.

I don't mean to make you in particular feel targeted. It's hard to deny that this forum is full of people who are freaking out about TOTW for no good reason.

That's good to know. I last researched TOTW in 2010, and that info was not on the website. Their email response to "Do you use ethoxyquin in your products?" was "It's a proprietary process." I'm glad they've changed it, but it is realistic to expect consumers to be like, "I wrote TOTW off, but it's been 2 years, so I'm going to check their site again and see if they've changed anything."

I'm still going to feed Solid Gold and Wellness. Salmonella hasn't bothered me or Belle yet.

I am also still feeding Solid Gold we are in CA, not affected by that plant, I heard they are changing from Diamond anyway... Also I do half raw/ Homemade diet so kibble is not the mainstay of our diet....

What's wrong with Blue Buffalo? My understanding was after the bad press from a while ago, that they had one of the higher quality controls for dog food. We've been feeding our dog BB for a while now. Any info would be greatly appreciated, as well as a suggestion of anything better.
