My brother calls me to tell me about a small Chihuahua dog that was wondering around the highway that runs in front of his work and asks me to come pick up the dog. I pick up the little guy and took him home. He had a rabies tag (which happened to be the same vet I use) and a city tag ... both of which were from year 2010. The next day I called my vet and they gave me "Taco's" two contact numbers. First one was no longer in use and the second never had an answer. The following day I called again and finally got an answer. The guy who answered contacted the owner to contact me. The owner calls and says that her and her Mom will meet up with me.

Mom and daughter show up and daughter seems happy to have Taco back. The Mom then tells me, "I saw him run down the street, chasing my son's truck. I thought when he reached the stop light, he would just turn back and come back home."

 The stop light on their street is the intersection of their street and the busy 4 lane highway! Why on earth would you knowingly, willingly, allow your dog to run towards, any street really, but a busy highway?! I would have been having a heart attack!

Well, they have Taco back now and are happy. ...I hope they don't continue to be so careless with him.

Here's the picture I took of Taco while I had him at my house. He was glued to my side every step I made through the house during his entire stay.

Cute little guy. I hope they keep a better eye on him ... highways and dogs do not mix. Glad you could save him for at least one time. :)

Well, that's a simple answer. It's exactly what one does when he/she wants to get rid of their dog in a most cruel and inhumane manner.
Geez, I thought everyone knew that.

Poor Taco :(

I have an annoying neighbor who allows their maltese to run loose in the neighborhood (despite local leash laws). I have found her several times by the busy highway and I've picked her up and taken her home. The last time I took her home, the woman answered the door in her bathrobe and told me that she saw her run off, and she called the dog, but she didn't come back. She said she figured she would come home eventually. I told her that if I caught the dog again, I was calling animal control instead of bringing her home. I haven't found her off-leash since, so I hope that my warning sunk in.

Oh my gosh!! Dogs aren't like humans, where they see a red light and think, "Okay time to stop and turn home now." They'll just keep going and a highway! It was lucky Taco wasn't hurt; good for you for you and your brother for helping him.

I remember a kennel dog got out on us (it was the lawn mower's fault for not closing the gate) and she was running on a highway. I dashed after her, the JRT was captured, but I was frantic and here this lady is like "oh well the dog will stop." What is wrong with people!?
