Whatever your reasons.....

I have been to Vegas about 5x, and AC tons of times ( AC is just 85 miles away )..... and even with all the really fancy casinos, the one I probably like best is Harrah's in Atlantic City. To look at, it really isn't anything special, but I am fairly lucky when I go, and the staff always seems to treat me well.

When in Vegas, I don't really have a favorite, but I absolutely prefer downtown over the strip. I like the "old school" feel of downtown to the glitz, glamour. and high prices that I find on the strip. That said, last time I went to Vegas with my wife we stayed at the Palazzo, which was very nice indeed.

I live in casino central.

I would say my favorite casino in Vegas Strip to stay is the Palazzo, specially for people who are sharing a room with several people. Palazzo has the largest "standard" room on the strip as they are all suites. A room there has a separate living room space so it comes to 700ish sq ft when the average is about 400's....I mean you can have 2 people crash on the couch since it's pretty big and comfy, plus the 2 beds. Lots to see/do since Venetian/Palazzo is so big. I love Bouchon and Bouchon Bakery (french macarons!) there. Shopping center actually has some shops a normal person would go to and buy from. Jersey Boys is one of my favorite shows on the strip (along with KA, Le Reve, Love).

My favorite place to hang on the strip as a local is the Cosmopolitan. There is a bar called Book&Stage who actually book pretty good acts to do free shows. I saw Nikka Costa there. There are randomness and kitsch everywhere so plenty to look at, lots of art. The "secret" pizza place upstairs is pretty legit NY style and I like hanging out in that lobby playing pool and board games with friends and our 'za. The pool is pretty cool and free to locals to come on weekdays. They have 2 other music venues with pretty good acts coming through (finally. Vegas isn't really one to get much acts). There's the Vesper bar in the lobby that makes solid, creative mixology drinks. Their suites are pretty amazing. We threw a party with a wrap around balcony to enjoy views and cigars and has a mini kitchen/bar- really good functional party space.

I normally hang in downtown/Fremont area though and recommend for someone looking for a slower pace or more old school vibe (at least what's remaining of the old school). My favorite hotel there is the Golden Nugget. Beautifully renovated, great pool amenity, right in the middle of Fremont St. I'm always someone to be found in the Fremont East bar area and arts district.
