Where To Start?

This is not my first dog, but my first strong and kinda aggressive dog. I rescued him from the pound along with the dog I got before him 7 months ago. The first dog I got was a female American Pit Bull Terrier, 2 months old, spayed, was easy to train, gets along great with humans/dogs and is not aggressive. She is now 9 months old.

I wanted to get a playmate for her so I went to the pound to get another dog, it ended up being another Pit Bull, 5 months old, neutered and from what I was told he is a Seal Pit Bull (black and white)??? Anyways he has been sick so I took him to the vet a few days ago and he is doing much better. Now he is very hyper active and plays with my other dog VERY aggressively. He is strong for his size and bites hard. I've only had him for 5 days and for 3 of those days he was in very bad shape, now that he is doing better I can start to train him.

He is already potty trained, I am now wondering should I work on the basics like sit, etc. Or should I work on him not biting so hard and playing nicer? Also how should I go about teaching him how not to bite so hard? He has attacked my other dog once when he was sick. I don't know if he was just doing it cuz he was sick and did not want to show weakness, or what.... it was over a toy from what I saw. He did not harm my other dog, but still it worried(s) me. He has not done it since and they play all the time now, but it scares me that one of them might get hurt, one of these times since he plays so aggressively.

Many pitbulls are genetically dog aggressive, and sometimes it comes out at some time in their life, so you may end up having to crate and rotate if you still want the dog.

If you think the play is getting to rough, seperate them, put them in sit-stays and calm them down.

Practice N.I.L.I.F, there is a sticky in the training section.
Thanks for the advice. I read the stick and I will do what it says. I taught him how to sit tonight in no time, he appears to be a very intelligent guy so far.

I have two dogs and my fiancee has one which is a Boston Terrier. They all get along well, but the Boston is pushy at times and she will get very aggressive when it comes to toys. If there is a toy, she wants it and will try to take it, which sometimes makes my new dog upset and he will get aggressive back at her which only makes her more mad and she will start a fight. I understand Pits are aggressive dogs when it comes to other dogs, but I think it is manageable. Once he gets over his sickness I will start to take him to the dog park with just him and I, hopefully that goes well and if it does I will take my other dog too.
It takes a lot of dedication to be a good dog owner...and especially a pit bull owner....please please please do a lot of research on you pups, get them into obedience classes for training and socialization....and do a search on this forum....we talk about our pit bulls all the time and all the issues that come along w/them....I can also send you some pit bull links and other sites with tons of info if you like :)
Links would be great! :)

If there are other dogs at the dog park, don't go. It is up to you as a repsonsible pit owner to take the necessary precacations. I'm not saying your dog is dog aggressive, but with everything bad that has been done to the breed, there is no fullproof way to know nothing will happen.

The safer route is to get together with friends with dogs where you can have supervised play dates.
I don't think he will be aggressive to other dogs, fighting wise... however he may play rough with them. We always take our other two dogs to the dog park, my other pit does fine but of course we got her about 3 months earlier in age. I will attempt to take him to the dog park, if it works out it does, but I at least have to try. I like my dogs to get along well with other dogs and be social.
Yeah I understand what you are saying, I always keep a good eye on my dogs at the park and if they seem agressive they stay on the leash the whole time.

He has actually been great since he is not as sick, however he has still not fully recovered. Though he plays with our two dogs just fine and the few times I took him for a walk when he seemed recovered he did fine with other dogs he saw.
He already knows how to sit, stay, come, etc.

I will read up on how and work on the "bite inhibition". He will not be going to the dog park for a few more weeks which gives me time to train him.

I have been working on the biting some and it's much better than what it was before.
