Where do you start?

Ok, so I'm wanting to start my dogs on a semi-raw diet... but how do you start? do you simply just go out and buy a pound of ground beef and give it to your dogs? do you have to introduce it slowly?

Could someone possibly help me get started? tell me how you started your dogs on raw.

Please and thanks!

(I'd research it, but I'm at school and I'm supposed to be finishing my short story...) ;)

i went cold turkey with iorek. he had his last kibble meal one night and the next day he went straight to chicken backs. we never looked back. but, that is just what we did. we went all raw right from the start.

i would definitely do a lot of research before you switch to anything like this.

good luck with whatever you chose to do :)
Thanks! I'm kinda thinking about doing half-and-half: maybe mix kibble with raw... idk how it'll work.

that's typically not a good idea, as raw and kibble digest at different rates and can cause some bacterial growth (as I understand it). There is a LOT of information about raw feeding on this forum...if you do a search...you can find info that will detail EXACTLY how to start. Its not something to take lightly, as you must know how to introduce each meat (slowly) and how to provide the dog an appropriate diet. Ground meat isn't appropriate...do a LOT of research before you get started.
There are stickies at the top of the food forum page that spell everything out for you. You could also do a search (top of any page) for previous threds on raw feeding, there have been a zillion, all spelling out how to get started.
If your wanting to do both you can feed kibble in the am and raw in the pm or vice versa. You should go out and get some chicken wings. My dogs love them and they are fairly cheap
