I'm new here, so apologies if I'm in the wrong forum to ask this.

A couple of years ago, a coworker gave me her dog, as she could no longer care for her. She told me then that Lucy was an English Springer Spaniel, however I'm often asked if she is a Brittney Spaniel. I honestly have no idea what the difference is in the 2 types. Can anyone clarify for me, and let me know for sure which one she is?

She's beautiful, but definitely looks more Brittney than Springer to me.

Yup, I would say Britt for sure. The Springers have longer ears, their snouts are more square, and they have longer fur.

She does look more Brittany to me, too, but she could just be a very out-of-standard Springer.

she could, also, be a Welsh Springer....doesn't look Brittany to me....i'd actually say a field bred English Springer

I really don't think she's either an english or a welsh. She looks like a Brittany in need of a trim... especially the fur around her ears. You can see in the OP's photos that her ears are not as long as a springer's at all.

She looks like a field bred Springer Spaniel or a field bred English Cocker Spaniel. The field bred Springers and Cockers are very different dogs from their bench bred cousins. You might pay a substantial sum of money for a field Springer that a show judge would disqualify from across the ring.

Thanks for the responses. Those pictures are actually from just after I got her, I've had her trimmed so she does look just a bit different now.

yeah, i would agree on the field bred ESS...the pic of the dog in the ESS link i posted is a field bred not a show bred....but the field bred Welshies are different than the show as well, just not as diverse as the ESS.....

In that new pic you posted I can see field ESS.

Do you have a photo of the dog standing, taken from the side (profile)?
