Any "group" goes. Whether it is AKC, landraces, FCI, UKC, etc.

I know some of us just can't narrow down our one favorite breed, so I was curious to see what groups/types of dogs people prefer and the reasons why.

I really like herding dogs, especially the collie type (Border Collie, Rough Collie, Smooth Collie, etc). Most of them I find pleasing to the eye as well. I love their look! My mind is always busy and never stops thinking/speculating, so I can relate to the need for a job (this could apply to any dog really). The only slight turn off is the general higher exercise requirements.

I also enjoy terriers. The (generally) smaller size is convenient, I think. Easier to pick up, easier transport, less food, etc. Of course they are energetic dogs! My dog was half terrier/half ?? and I enjoyed her personality immensely.

The toy group is awesome too :D Small size, usually people oriented. Cute :)

I personally don't care for hounds. I think they're nice dogs, just not for me. I would like to visit one, just not live with one. No offense is meant, just not my personal preference.

So let's hear it!

As a whole I like the sporting group (Gundogs in the KC). But I love certain breeds in the others. I love the look and the energy of the sporting breeds.

But with the other groups there are just some breeds that catch my eye. I own two non-sporting breed along with my sporting breed.

For UKC, I'd have to go with the Northern Breed group. I love the looks of almost every dog in there, and I like the personalities as well. Guardian and Herding groups would be tied for second place.

In AKC, probably Herding; I like the majority of the breeds in there. I also really enjoy Working and Non-Sporting, though.

Hard to pick a favorite group really. Least favorite would be hounds, I probably wouldn't ever have a dog from that group personally, not because I don't like them... just not for me & my lifestyle.

The dogs I like the most are in the herding group and terrier or toy (some of the toys ARE "terriers" technically speaking). But I really only like very few from each group.

As far as herding, I could only see myself with a BC, English Shepherd (not registered by AKC) or Aussie. The only dogs I'd consider from toy would be Silky, Papillon, and maybe a Chihuahua down the road. And the only terriers would be Westie, Border Terrier, or Cairn.

Terrier group for sure. I like their size and temperaments even if a few of them would be a bit much for me at this point in my life. I like that they are generally small but also very playful and active. I find a lot of toy breeds nice to be around sometimes but I prefer a dog that likes to get out there and do stuff to those breeds which are more lapdogs. And the ones I've known have been much more trainable than people give them credit for.

There's too many great groups to choose from. I love the look of herding dogs, but when it comes to my own home, I have to go with terrier. I love their bouncy little attitudes, pocket size, and dynamite sized energy.

When I watch a dog show on TV, I'm always excited to see the working group. The toy group is probably on the bottom of my list (no offense...small dogs just don't fit my life style) and all the others are somewhere in the middle. :)

Sporting group :D They catch my eye. I also like the herding group. There "flashy" and fun to watch work. This isn't a "group" but the mix breed group :)

Herding group hands down, not even close. Collie family specifically. Border Collies, Aussies, English shepherds, Shelties, Pyr Sheps, Welsh Sheepdogs, Koolies, etc are my favorite group. I also love the belgian shepherds, ACD, and the cardis. Other than paps and maybe a toller, I think I will only have herders and almost all collie type. I definitely plan on at least owning a few collie breeds in the future.

I think herders generally mesh best with me personality-wise and are great at the dogsports I love (agility). And I think the collies are the most appealing group looks-wise too. I miss having a herding breed around and can't wait to add one back to my house soon. They're just amazing dogs all around and fit my ideal very well.

I love looking at sighthounds. I know that's not technically a show group but it's the sighthounds that I like from the hound groups (nothing against scenthounds). I also love watching the working breeds, and the herding breeds. I think the toy group is fun because there's such a variety.

For me, it's Terriers (I LOVE every terrier ever made! LOL), then Hounds (specifically sighthounds, but I do like the scenthounds too LOL) then Sporting. though I adore specific breeds in the other groups, I dont have a "thing" for the group as a whole :p my least fav is the herding group. not because they aren't gorgeous and smart, but because very few of the herding group would fit in with my lifestyle (and I honestly dont know what I'd do with a dog that wasn't stubborn! LOL)
