What does it mean when Josefina does this?

Experienced & wise members, & those who may know more then me.

I have a few questions regarding Josefina's strange (to me) behaviors- first, often times she stares at me, she watches me with unblinking eyes, why is this & what does it mean?

Also, when I first get up in the morning, she seems uneasily looking at me like if she even thinks as though I'm going to look her direction, she shifts around & acts nervous... It's only in the morning, any other time in the evening she doesn't do this, could the alarm startle her in the morning? I don't think it's me, it's not like I get up quick (I wake up at 3:30am I don't think that anyone is energetic at 3:30 lol.)

I dunno :)
1. Staring to see what you are going to do - based on context of location or time - Taking her for a walk; feeding her; walking toward her to pet her; take her outside ????
2. Ditto for first thing in the morning - what are you going to do? I imagine that you have some minor variation in your routine. For example, in the morning, I may go to the bathroom, let my dog outside, feed my dog, get dressed for a walk .... in any order...
I am neither terribly experienced, nor wise....but what you describe does make me think of some of the things Caeda does.
The staring thing....for Caeda anyway, she wants something....not always sure what, entertainment, play, walk, cuddles, food....sometimes I don't think she even knows. It might just be "mom, I'm bored" lol. It seems to be her way of asking for something extra polite. Yep, she gives me the intent unblinking stare...laser eyes! lol
In the morning (well...sometimes anyway), she is kinda shifty....she stays on the couch, but fidgets a little bit. As soon as I walk over the tail just starts whapping hard. In this case I'm thinking the fidgetyness is anticipation maybe (she LOVES her morning couch cuddle). She also starts acting nervous, pacing, sometimes whining at 2:15, or so my DH tells me, I get home anywhere between 2 and 2:30 usually. She's excited that I'm getting home apparently!

Dunno if that helps any. Hanksimon has good points and I'm sure he knows more than I do lol.

"I'm patient, and if I stare long and hard enough, I can eventually cause the human to react, whereby something beneficial will happen to me".

My guess is that this approach has 'worked' for her, many MANY times during the course of her life.

Dogs spend an eternity observing us. Some even spend a good sized portion of that time praying that fate will deal them an advantageous hand. Kinda reminds me of that passage in one of Suzanne Clothier's (?) books about a certain outdoor dog who was forever staring off into the distance, while sitting patiently at the far limit of his rope, ... 'praying' for the rope to break most likely.

good gravy, that's got to be one of the saddest things I've ever heard! *sniffle*

Emmett watches us very, very, very closely.... I think he's planning on stealing my hair do.
I agree with most, my dog stares at me all of the time. Dog minds are pretty simple, no scheming or abstract judgment can occur in those brains. As Jean Donaldson mentions, dogs are either trying to make good things happen or make bad things stop. Most likely our dogs are observing our every move, figuring out if something good or bad is going to happen.

And probably just what is happening in general, too.

I know Wally watches movement and is very "nosy". I think he wants to be "in the know" about what's going on around him (180 degrees from his old personality LOL). Some of it is probably "is something fun/bad about to happen?" but I think it's also "hey, what's going on? I hear sounds, see movement, some I know, some I don't, what's up out there?"
