It depends on the size, breed, and individual... but it is fairly routine surgery. My best advice is to talk with the Vet, most have a hand-out sheet that explains pre-surgery (no meals), post surgery (take home or stay overnight), internal or external stitches, keeping the incision clean, keeping the dog quiet for 1 - 2 weeks, use of an Elizabethan collar, if needed, to prevent licking; and reduction of the amount of food given after surgery, if needed, to adjust for metabolism changes that could cause weight gain.

When you bring her home after surgery, she may be dopey, sleepy. The Vet will provide 3- 7 days of meds for pain and maybe antibiotic. The next day she may feel fine ... but you have to keep her from bouncing or running around. There may be a follow-up in a week to remove stitches, Or in 2 weeks if there are no stitches.
