I have this wonderful dog that I rescued about a month ago. I was told she is a Scottie but after further "investigation" she looks more like a Skye/Cairn/Welsh terrier mix. Her temperament aligns almost 100% with a Cairn. Opinions? What do you think?? Dog Mammal Vertebrate Dog breed Canidae

She could certainly have some Cairn in her. Shelters are notoriously bad at identifying breed, mixed or pure. (Some studies put shelter breed identification at 25% correctly identified.) Most rescues get their dogs from shelters, so the bad guess is just passed on. My dog is supposed to be a border collie x golden retriever. I have yet to see him herd or retrieve. I have seen him chase and catch small game and bay like a beagle, however. I think you can judge by behavior as well as by looks.

Whatever she is, she's cute! Thanks for rescuing, also.

Thanks!!! She has quickly become my little buddy and I miss her terribly when I am at work! Luckily I can go visit her during lunch since I just work 1/2 mile from home :). Rescuing is the only way to go for me!

The Cairn Terrier prefers to execute and needs his daily strolling, but is practical to any home in which he can be a finish personal and busybody and where his powerful terrier features are kept under control.
She is such a good little dog. She is stubborn but so smart and sweet. Loves to burrow into "tight spaces" to see what she can find or scope out. She is very friendly with others but definitely has her favorite person in the family. She is not much of a barker unless there is an actual reason to bark. She is very playful and I have to thoroughly wear her out at night to get her to sleep. She is bright and what she didn't already "know" she has learned quickly.

I'm guessing that they thought Scottie because of the black fur, definitely looks like there's some terrier in her background but agree with the schnauzer suggestion too.
She has the stubborness, no barking without good reason and the obviously superior intelligence ;) in common with Hamish. We've also found that cairns absolutely adore people and toys (especially squeaky ones!).

Janey's favorite toys are her tennis balls. She also lovvvvessss when I hide things for her to find (and she will even hide toys herself and play solo hide and seek). She has a TON of energy that's for sure!
