Does anyone know? I am new here and we found this dog today and we walked the entire town pratically looking to see if she belongs to anyone and so far no luck. She doesn't seem to be a puppy....

We have a boxer/lab who is about 75lbs and he is about 3 times her size....

Any help would be appreciated! We are going to make a "found" sign and I want to get the breed right.

He is a beautiful dog!....yes he looks like a Norwegian Elkhound.

I hope you find his owner -- if not, can you keep him?:)

Thanks so much for the quick reply! If we can't find her owner we will def. keep her. My kids have already named her just in case ;)

Thought Norwegian Elkhound the second I saw her. This is our Elkhound and while her coat isn't exact, you can see the similarities:

They're wonderful dogs. Do you know much about them? There is another owner on the board (TrumpetJock I BELIEVE is the screen name, haven't seen him posting much, but he owns another male) so if you have any questions, I'm happy and I'm sure he's happy to fill you in. :)

Thanks so much everyone! I did search a little and it seems like they are good family dogs? Which works for me because we have 4 children (ages 10,8,4,2) and she is great with them for just getting to know each other. Our boxer/lab (Dexter) is of course being a doofus (trying to show his dominance) but they seems to be ignoring each other for the most part ;)

Thank you :) Jack is wonderful. Very high energy, so your kids could be a GREAT way for exercise and play. Though high energy, Jack is very respectful of children, and does not jump or play too voraciously. He mostly just likes to run.

I have to give you the Elkie warning though. They can be BARKERS. :p

Be sure to post fliers, notify animal control, and maybe even put an ad in the paper.

I also suggest taking her to the vet and having them scan for a microchip and look for a tattoo

We ended up finding her "people" about a week after we found her. As I thought she was from a local amish farm and the owner was going to let us keep her but his grandkids cried and cried so she went back home. We miss her greatly, she was a wonderful dog...but I am glad we found her home. :D
