So we are picking up a new puppy hopefully tomorrow, we think it will be a good fit for our home and current dog. Our current dog is a aussie-possibly a mix though not sure and the puppy we are looking at we have been told is a aussie/heeler mix. Some of its siblings have interesting coloring so I'm wondering what breed do you think they are? We are still getting the puppy no matter what I'm just curious.
I'd believe Australian Shepherd x Australian Cattle Dog. Australian Shepherds can come in blue or red merle, as well as black or red, with or without tan points and/or white markings. The blue or red speckle coloration of the Australian Cattle Dog is also a type of merle. So, all the different colors of the pups are perfectly plausible. I would wonder if any of the puppies are deaf, since that often accompanies the merle gene. Do they not have the parents?
Leorose- None of the puppies are deaf as far as I'm aware. The mother is a blue heeler and and the father is the aussie. I was worried about the white puppies but they said their hearing seems fine. It's strange how genetics works but it's interesting to see how different the puppies are!
