I've noticed in the past 4-5 years that the local popular breeds have been changing. Given, I see a little different breed variety than most. There aren't many bully breeds here and very few small dogs. A few years back the most popular dogs were, of course, labs and goldens followed by border collies and then huskies.

Recently I've noticed that there are fewer border collies and many more Bernese and Aussies.

So, the most common breeds that I see (in sort of popularity order) are labs, goldens, Bernese, huskies, Aussies and a particular looking mutt fondly called a "Truckee Dog" that's made up of husky/ German Shepherd/ Aussie/ lab and maybe a little wolf.

How about you? Have you noticed a change in your local "dog of the day"?

Hmm, there're alot of bullies here, particularly English, French and Pits, then Pugs, beagles and several different types of terriers. Of course being a military community it changes ALL the time, a few months ago I noticed alot more Bird dogs and Boxers

At home in OK, it's Labs. Everyone has labs. And everyone has two and they are always the same color. It's strange. The second most popular breed on our block is Papillons, but that's mainly due to our four. There's another person with one named Xena so that makes 5. There are probably 30 labs in the neighborhood. We have two huskies on our street, both are awful behaved and one is always loose. We have an OES, a pembroke corgi, a spastic golden puppy, two dachshunds, two westies, two schnauzers, and akita, a pyr, and a couple with a yorkie mutt just moved in. Before that we had no mutts. A ways down the road and there's three houses in a row that have sable shelties.

Here in TX, there's a TON of small dogs. I live in an apartment so everyone around me has shih tzus and chihuahua type dogs. Most of my neighbor dogs are shih tzus. there are tons of them with the apartment dwelling students. I see a lot more mutts and herding breeds here. ACDs are very common as are Aussies, BCs, Shelties... There are also a lot more pit bulls here. I know one person with a pitty in OK, but they're just EVERYWHERE here. They're probably the most common dog here owned by the locals and not the students (who mostly live in housing that doesn't allow pits). There's also an abnormal amount of smooth Saint Bernards here. I'm wondering if there's a breeder or something pumping them out because I see them a lot and they're not that common.

There are tons of mutts here...probably half the dogs that walk by my house are mutts...

Also see a lot of Labs, and Aussies...kind of strange how many Aussies there are actually. Quite a few bully-type breeds, a few Beagles, Goldens, several Pugs and Shih Tzus, a couple Rotties, one Sheltie, 2-3 Boxers...a husky across the street, and a rough collie and malamute share a yard down the street...

That's all I can remember at the moment...

We have a big mix here. Mostly labs, a few goldens. Apparently theres another pembroke welsh corgi in the neighborhood that I have yet to see:p We have a westie next door, an enormous great dane behind us. Down the road there is an english bulldog, a couple mixes, a german shepherd, a couple more great danes, and another house behind us has a lab and a doberman when their kids visit

Oh, and in apartment land, English Bulldogs are SO common for the 'macho' twenty year old guys that can't have pit bulls. It kind of amuses me because EBs are the last thing from macho in my mind.

lol You definitely have the most diverse crowd.

You can tell the tourists from the locals by what type of dogs they have. The locals have big dogs, off leash. The tourists have small dogs and all of their dogs are leashed.

I forgot to mention that we are up to a grand total of 5 rough collies for the entire North Lake Tahoe area... and still only one smoothie.

We have..

A Basenji, Yorkie, Labs, a few Lab mixes (including Marge), couple of Pits, couple of Shepherds, some Rotties, Boxers, a Sheltie, Beagle, some JRTs, a Corso, couple of large breed mixes, small breed mixes, Shih Tzus, couple of Chis, Papillon, a Ridgeback don't know if he still lives there though), a Weim who I've never seen outside the house, and yeah, that's about it. Nothing too exotic.

Lately I've seen a lot of Mals/Huskies popping up too.

There seems to quite a mix around here. Labs, Goldens and Goldendoodle mixes seem popular. There are a few small dogs, some big dogs. We have a lot of dogs in our neighborhood. We went to a nearby puppy class last night. It was a large group that they broke up into smaller groups. There was more than 20 dogs, and I don't think there were any duplicates. My lab mix looks like a lab, and there was a pure lab, so it looked like there were two labs.

A black lab across the street, a chihuahua couple houses down, a collie down the street and about 3 beagles a bit further. That's all I see when I walk my dogs.
