I live in Southern California and suffer from severe depression and an anxiety disorder making life very difficult. I have been advised that receiving a psychiatric service dog would improve my quality of life, but am having tremendous difficulty locating a good program. I've already looked through listings, researched for weeks, etc. Please provide specific programs for me to consider, not just a place I can find more listings. Thank you in advance!

This is a hard question to answer on an online forum, because you have asked for a specific program to consider. No one can do that work for you, and I think that is why you don't have too many responses to your question. I am answering in this way because 1), No one else has, and 2), I live in Minneapolis and therefore could not possibly give you a knowledgeable referral.

However...if you go to PetPartners.org, and click on Service Dog Information, you can search for specific Service Animal Trainers for your specific situation. I found several organizations in California that train psychiatric service dogs. These are just the first three listed in California.

Etcetera. You can find this search at http://www.deltasociety.org/page.aspx?pid=452. Pet Partners, formerly called Delta Society, is a leading registrar of Therapy Dogs and Service Dogs, and are pretty knowledgeable about the organizations that they link to. Disclaimer: I do not have first hand knowledge of any of these organizations, except Delta Society (Now Pet Partners) of which we are a member team.
