I have lived in the same area for 12 years and have never seen anything like this... The only thing that has changed is I now have a small flock of chickens, and maybe these bugs are coming from them. The bugs look like some sort of flea. They are the same size or smaller than a flea. However, they do not have jumping legs. They do not move around on the dog, but rather latch on. They are easy to pull off with tweezers and do not leave a bite mark. I have gotten a few on myself, and I don't even notice them unless I see it. They do not leave itchy spots, bites, red marks or anything. I use advantage on my dogs regularly and it does not seem to bother the bugs at all. They do not stay latched on for very long (24 hours at most). They do not swell up like a tick. Any ideas?

They could also be wood lice. You really need to take the dog to the vet. They can pull off a few bugs and examine them under the microscope.

Yes, that is exactly what it is, a sticktight flea. Thank you sooo much for solving the mystery! Now I can treat it accordingly. My little jrt/ dachshund thanks you!
