Today ended up being a very rough day. We went to my grandma's for Mother's Day as usual. And since my grandma loves Bailey and Bailey loves going places we took her along like we always do. My uncle, whom I despise for many reasons ended up being there.
Honestly, my uncle is not a good person, racist, mean to women, disrespectful, beats his dogs into submission... On many occasions he has given his dog ham fat, chocolate, grapes, and cooked bones. My mother and I always tell him it's unhealthy and he laughs at us and does it anyway. He thinks he's an expert on dogs and does it to show us we're wrong.

Well, today he crossed the line. He gave my Bailey a cooked rib bone:eek: and before we realized what he had done and were able to get it from her she had eaten the end of it. I took the bones from all the dogs he had given them too, and took the trash outside because his Weimeraner kept trying to get the bones out of it. He then gives his dog another bone and laughs when Bailey tries to get the broken pieces his dog left behind.

It was so difficult to act rationally in this situation and I knew I needed to get Bailey out of there asap. Fighting back tears(I cry when I'm angry) I grabbed my dog, told my mom to call me when they were ready for me to pick them up and left. It was so hard to keep myself from letting my uncle have it, but I knew I needed to focus on Bailey. When I got home I called up the emergency clinic to ask them what to look for and see if they thought I should bring her in. I have been watching her all night and she is eating and pooping and acting fine.

Needless to say Bailey will not be going up there anymore and I plan to talk to my uncle once more,to give him a lecture. I am just so upset about everything.

I am so sorry. Ugh.. I just feel your pain in your post. It really sucks when you have family members who think they know everything. I mean, if they want to ruin their own dogs' lives, there's not much you can do, but my God.. LEAVE EVERYONE ELSE'S DOGS ALONE. Hope your girl is okay.

Thank you, it's been rough... I hate that he treats his own dogs that way but it's really crossing the line to treat my dog as if she means nothing. He kept referring to her as "that dog". At one point he even said "God made ugly dogs, too" I'm not sure if he was referring to my grandma's dog or Bailey but either way that is just wrong.

You have one of the cutest dogs on the planet (all Corgis are, it's a documented fact!) He's a real lowlife it sounds like.

I have to deal with friends and family members who don't respect my dog as well. Someone in my boyfriend's family laid down a pan of GREASE for my Enzo... I didn't find out about it until later, but ohhhhh I could have spit nails! Now I see why all their dogs are overweight. People in my family don't like dogs as a whole, so they think I am nuts the way I act over my boy.

Thanks, and yes, he is a lowlife in more ways than I posted about.

It's very upseting when people don't respect your dog. I take her to the vet regularly, feed her high quality food, I love my little girl. I don't deal with anger well so this was very difficult.
What an a$$. >_>
And thats putting it nicely...

:( I'm sorry. If it helps, I know how you feel. Normally I've kept calm and have repeated "Do what you will with your dogs, I can't stop that, but you will respect my wishes for MY dogs. Because I'm the one who loves them and I'm the one who pays for their care." but my boyfriend's brother slapped Smalls pretty hard when I was in a different room one day and I exploded. Still dealing with the backlash.

Poor Smalls. After 21 years I've learned it's definetly worth the backlash. In this case, it took everything I had to focus my attention and not flip out.
There's always at least one A Hole in the family isn't there
Must be. But I honestly have to say, I don't really consider him family, especially after this. I just can't tolerate people like him.

This isn't even my family. Thankfully, my family likes all of our dogs quite a bit, and even though Jonas isn't the friendliest man in the world, they are kind to him.

That sucks CK.

I deal w/ the opposite problem; my family on both sides are over worried when the two dogs play. It can get pretty noisy and looks a bit vicious, but that's just how they play. No one is comfortable w/ this no matter what I tell them and everyone ends up yelling at the dogs for playing!!! If I'm around, there is no need for anyone to say anything to my dogs unless I do. This drives me NUTS!!

I do not allow anyone to treat me with disrespect.

Family or not, he would have gotten the message delivered from me about his behavior around my "stuff" (including my dog).

This guy is a bully and needs to be set to straights. Trust me, after my wrath and fury he would have been the one leaving, not I or my dog.

ugh. Some people...
I would have made such a scene if someone did that with my dog, family or not. But thankfully everyone I know knows how we are about Cooper and wouldn't dare give him ANYTHING without asking.
I am sorry your day did not go well and I hope your pup is alright!!!

I will indeed unleash my fury upon him next time I see him. The problem was, I didn't know if she was sick and I had to call my vet, I didn't have time to stand around and argue. I needed to get her home so she could relaxand I could focus on her, not that a** hole.

Trust me, I do not even consider this man family, haven't for some time. I will definetly be making a scene, but I was too focused on Bailey and her needs rather than my own. I don't deal with anger well and have, on many occasions, made a scene. In this particular case though, I needed to get her home so she could relax and I could monitor her.

I think this calls for a pie in the face, and he needs to be the one to leave, with pie dribbling down his face. I am also disappointed no one else supported your feeling and and addressed this egg head. My mother would have taken my side if this happened to me and my dog. Oh, Bailey is my last name, so you must have a great dog, that has some English in him!
