How old is your puppy? What treats are you using? You CAN use hot dogs and cheese if you need some high value treats to get him interested, they just need to be cut into tiny pieces, maybe about the size of a pinky fingernail. One hot dog should really get you 70-100 pieces.
Have you "loaded" the clicker? Did you start with his name first? That's a really good way to get the concept across, say his name, he looks at you, you click the instant he looks, and give the treat. With clicker training, timing is super important.
Young puppies should be training about 3-5 minutes, but you can do these 3-5 minute sessions about 5-10 times a day. Longer than that, and the training becomes frustrating for human and puppy, and the puppy will start to have a negative associate with training. It should be fun!
