Fiance thinks I'm weird bc I'm petrified of trimming Belle's nails. She is our new 8 week old chi mix pup. I have trimmed billions of nails lol but these are the tiniest I've ever seen. They need to be trimmed badly though. They are like kitten claws that never retract.. what's the easiest way for me to do this?

I would use small human nail clippers to do it and just cut off the very tip off so it isn't so pointy and sharp. Take the process very slow and give her treats and warm calm praise as you do everything. My pup's nails were pretty tiny too (probably not as tiny as Belle's, lol).

Oh gosh, I wish I could upload pics too.. this is the tiniest dog I've ever seen, even smaller than my papillon was. She makes me a nervous wreck! Lol! Thank you!

We actually didn't really trim Cali's nails until she was about 5 months old (there wasn't really a need to), and she was maybe 2.5lbs at the time.. maybe 3. We just use normal dog nail clippers and it works fine... however, I'm really cautious about the quick so I trim very little off. You could also invest in a dremel.

My paps nails were always easy to trim lol! I don't think that this pup even weighs a half of a pound, lol...

If the dog has light colored nails it is easy to avoid the quick. It's the pink shadow you see at the base of the nail. It's not too tough with dark nails either if you just look at the tip (you should be able to see how far in the quick is) and make a few small trims to be careful. When I trimmed my brother's Chihuahua mix pup I used a small pair of scissor style (as opposed to guillotine style) clippers...probably essentially the same as cat clippers. It was actually much easier and faster than clipping my own dog's thick black nails, since they're so soft and thin.

I would imagine that a chi pup is about the same size as a yorkie pup.In that case, first you have to keep her as still as possible so that you dont accidently cut too much off ;) I wrap my pups up in a towel so that they cant move, and just leave the paw I´m going to work on out. That way she wont flail around. It´s really fast that way.
Just cut the very tips off so that they dont feel like kitten claws and she´ll be fine :) As kafkabeetle said,if her nails are white,it´s even easier. The pink shadow inside the nail is your guide - dont reach it ;)
