Transitioning to farmina and still soft stools

773 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  LeoRose
Hello, when I got my german shepherd puppy at 8 weeks the breeder had him on loyall puppy food, he is now 12 weeks and I am transitioning him to farmina lamb and blueberry puppy. The soft stools started happening about halfway through the transition and I am testing out 100% farmina at the moment. I even add in 1 to 2 tablespoons of canned pumpkin and he still has soft stools. I give him 1 cup 3 times a day. Is the food too rich for him, did I transition to quickly, am I giving him too much food…?

Obviously I can't tell you exactly why your puppy is having issues with Farmina, but I will say that three of my past four dogs had the same exact result with that brand of food. As much as I really, really like the brand & wanted them to do well on it, they simply didn't. No matter how great a food is, it isn't necessarily best (or even good) for every individual dog.

Some foods just don't agree with some dogs. My SPoo's breeder had him on Victor, and I switched him to Purina a couple of weeks after getting him because he always had loose stools and was very thin. Within a week, his stools were good and he was gaining some much needed weight. I know of other dogs who do great on Victor. It just didn't work for Simon.
