From your experience , at what age did you find the best retention for training and or learning tricks ?

Best retention has been since he was over 1 year.

I would agree with that too.
But I also think that a dog learns and retains best if it learns a few basic concepts such as words meaning a thing, a place, or an action as a puppy from about 4-12 months of age.
That's always been my belief, one that I'm putting to the test with a 3yr old rescue with no sense of those three concepts now. I may have to rethink my stance in the next year, or at least I hope I have to.

That is interesting , at age 7 and a 1/2 months now he catches on to new things so easily . Much better than when he was 3 or 4 months .
