I found a tic in my dogs neck. I have a feeling that it was in there for a while because I could feel a cyst about the size of a pea under the skin around the bite. It wasn't full of blood. I had a difficult time pulling it out. Unfortunately the head broke off and now remains logged in her skin.
I am assuming that I need to take her to the vet in the morning.... right? Is there any reason to take her to the emergency now? Should I dab the area with rubbing alcohol?
I am terrified she will get limes disease. Is that a possibility? I live in Santa cruz Ca and have friends that got limes disease around these parts.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
C.

Can you remove the head with tweezers, and then clean it with betadine diluted with water so it is tea colored, or bactine antibacterial wash?
LYME disease is always a possibility in areas with tics. You can have the dog tested in a couple of weeks, or just keep an eye on it for symptoms.
