The "Pit Bull" Terminology

I've heard people say that only an American Pit Bull Terrier can be called a "Pit Bull". I disagree, I think you can call APBT/AST/SBT "Pit Bulls". I think just the word Pit Bull is a general term for the 3 similar but different breeds. If someone asks you want kind of dog you have, and you reply "I have an American Staffordshire Terrier" then you're being breed specific. If you answer "I have a Pit Bull" that could mean you have one of the 3 breeds. Who agrees with me, and who thinks i'm a moron? :)

LOL. I don't think you're a moron, but I disagree. They are 3 seperate breeds. I wouldn't refer to an Amstaff or a Staffie as a pit, just the APBT.
Amstaff, APBT, SBT are all BULL TERRIER breeds. However, there is only one Pit Bull, The American PIT BULL Terrier.

In common everyday practice, you are correct.
actually in common everyday usage there are twenty some breeds that are often mistakenly referred to as Pit Bulls. Everything from Corsos to AmBullies to JRT to Bulldog mixes to Terrier mixes to AmStaffs and Staffies and beyond...
