My dog makes quite a few noises, and knows how to speak, so I'd like to teach him to say "mama". I got some treats and repeated "say mama!" to him. When he barked or made noise, I treated him. Now he'll bark when I use the command but I need to fine tune it a little. I know it's a silly trick, but anyone have any suggestions?

How do you teach a dog to "speak" in the first place? My neighbors dog does that and it's so COOL! :D But my dog hardly barks at all, which I kinda like... But how can I teach her to speak?

I think this kind of thing generally involves reinforcing a sound your dog ALREADY makes. So if your dog makes a sound similar to 'Mama' then you pinpoint that, reinforce it, and slowly turn it into a command.

I'm not so sure there is a way to get your dog to produce a 'Mama' sound unless he's already doing doing it.
