Is it common for rescues to tattoo dogs? We got Bella from a rescue in TN, she has a little "S" tattooed on her belly. I am going to email the rescuer and ask about it, but I didn't know if this was a common thing or not.
I am thinking the S stands for spayed, just have never seen it done before.

The "S" is most likely for "Spayed".

A lot of low-cost spay/neuter clinics will do that, and some shelters (some vets, too, but not many). It's kind of hard to tell if a dog has been spayed otherwise, so they just take the mystery out of it.
