Can dogs taste through smell? Like, you know how some animals, like lions can taste a smell..

Major found some interesting smell on my hand and starting doing this weird thing, like...the muscles on the top of his head were bulging up and down and he was like..chomping together his teeth making a smacking sound...it was weird..maybe he wants to eat me and this is a sign....

Yeah, my old neighbors' dogs did that ALL the time when my Callie went into heat. They'd go up WHILE she was peeing, lick the ground, then do that chomping thing. Sometimes they'd make foamy spit. It was gross.

It's an organ called the Vomeronasal Organ in the roof of the dogs mouth and when they lick certain things they will test the scent with this organ. and you will get the funny teeth chattering
