It's good of that team not request an actual wolf as their mascot. The tamaskan's wolfy appearance gets the job done well enough.
It's sad that someone can find it in them to poison this dogs for what is probably just a sports rivalry.

Nobody's sure on what the motivation behind it is, but I can't think of any other reason someone would have any desire to do this.

I don't think it's because of sports rivalry. It wasn't the mascot who was poisoned--it was other dogs belonging to the breeder of the mascot (which is not where the mascot lives). So probably it's for the same reasons anyone poisons anybody else's dogs. . .because the dogs bark, because the person hates dogs, because these particular dogs look too much like wolves, because some people don't like having a breeder (or anyone else with a lot of pets) in their neighborhood, etc. Some people are just jerks.

Ditto. I actually attend NC State, but I've never been much of a sports person. It's beyond my comprehension how people can take it so seriously.

They are the parents and the siblings of that particular mascot, not just any tamaskans.
I think there's a possibility they were targeted for this reason. Can't kill the mascot himself, kill his family.

Well there are teams that have live lions, bears and tigers, and at least one has a buffalo. There are lots of live dog mascots (including quite a few different bulldogs), there is at least a few bighorn sheep, a few eagles (including a Bald), a razorback, a few horses, a texas longhorn, rooster, mules, shetland pony, Northern Goshawk, bobcat, and possibly more.


Yeah it's very sad, and I hope they can find the culprit. I would however not assume that this is a sports rivalry, because it could very well be something else entirely

This is just so very sad.

The breeder (Tarheel Tamaskan) is raising money now to cover the extensive cost it took to save 3 of the dogs and pts the other 2. I believe they have raised a little over $4,000 of the $12,500 cost.
