My 2 year old Golden has been getting a lot of thick, dark ear wax, I think, because of swimming. I also read that this can happen because of ear mites. The vet diagnosed yeast.

My question is, is there a good way to maintain ear health for long eared breeds that like to swim? Can anyone recommend OTC meds? Thanks in advance!

A good drying cleanser and remembering to dry out the ears after swimming EACH TIME should help. Look for one with tea tree oil.
Yeast thrives in MOIST environments. So drying the dog off well, using a blowdryer if you must around and in (from a distance) the ears, under the ears/neck area and the tail head and pants area can keep it from growing in those thick coated areas and prevent hotspots as well.
