My little Maltese girl is 13 and is showing signs of dementia. She sleeps all day and doesn't sleep at night. We give her 1/2 Alprazolam in the evening and again when she wakes up in the middle of the night. Occasionally (like last night) she never settles down. She runs through the house and cries so much that she can't even feel the meds .I don't want to give her too much medicine. I was up with her for 4 hours, trying to get her to sleep. It's exhausting for her and me as well. Anyone else have this problem?

Yeah, with my 17 year old girl who had a brain tumor. I'm not normally the type to try, ahem, herbal remedies, but a friend recommended CBD oil biscuits and dang if they didn't work. She slept much better with them. I'm in Alaska where pretty much anything is legal, though, so check your local laws and whatnot, and of course it's always good to ask the vet first.

I'm so sorry about your little girl! Seventeen is a ripe old age. I've been using CBD oil - one dropperful at dinner. She also had 1/2 Alprazolam ( dog xanax) around 10:00 last evening and she slept until 8:30 this morning! We can't figure out why sometimes she stays awake all night and sometimes she slepts like a little log. I thinks it's a case of accepting her behaviors and loving her just the same.
