my 3 1/2 yr old boxer hase gone all the way through advanced training. And she responds to the commands well...all except for "sit". i know she knows this command, i make her do it every day, but unless im holding a tasty treat, she wont budge. i really dont like the idea of having to haul around treats all the time, i think my dog should respect me enough to sit because she wants to please! well, that's the experience iv had with all my other dogs anyway. im not about to start giving her treats just to make her sit, she knows the command, it's obvious, but she doesnt want to! after i correct her, she will sit, because she gets scared, but i dont want to be correcting my dog all the time, when i tell her to sit, its not because i feel like it, its because....i need her to sit! iv read a fair amount about boxers ( i must admit, this is my first) and i keep finding the information that boxers are stuborn dogs, who usually dont care whether or not they make you pleased...this might not be true about all boxers, but it deffinatly is about mine!

is there anyway i can get her to respond faster....she's not stupid, just stuborn!

Is her response the same whether you use a hand signal or the word "sit"?

Maybe tasty treats have become part of her signal to sit? Did you use treats to teach her sit in the first place? If so, how did you go about fading them out?

Why not start having her sit for various things that occur in your daily routine? For instance, before you put her dinner down, before you open the door to let her outside, before you put her leash on to take her for a walk, before tossing her toy/ball, ect. You can also stash some tasty treats around the house in various locations. Then you can randomly reward her if she sits when you ask, yet you will not have a treat in hand when she complies. She will be more inclined to sit if sitting gains her access to thing she wants and needs.

thnx, thats good advice. and yes, she responds to both, even though i dont use the hand signal anymore, and i always make her sit before....everything you mentioned, but as soon as she sits, and she doesnt think i care anymore, she just stands up! i originally started with treats, and then used them lees and less, iv been doing it with out treats for almost 4 yrs now, and she's starting to rebel, especially with the command "lay down", but "sit and lay down" are the only two she wont do....what is her problem?
