This is probably a dumb question, but it's the first time in 20 years of teaching that I've gotten really sick, so I haven't had any reason to wonder. Are dogs at risk of getting strep from owners? They're both trying to be super snuggly and attentive and I'm not sure if it's OK to let them.

The most common cause in humans of "strep" (e.g., strep throat) is Type A streptococcus bacteria. The most common cause of strep infections in dogs is Type G streptococcus. Dogs usually aren't infected by Type A, and humans usually aren't infected by Type G.

So chances are that your dogs won't catch anything from you.

But never say never.

It's not impossible, but it's not likely, either. I wouldn't worry too much about it but maybe don't do a lot of kissy face until you're well.
