My Alaskan Malamute has a serious slightly bloody red rash all over the top of his head. If I even graze the top of his fur, he shakes and cries. I recently gave him free run of our dog yard, maybe he got into something? Some kind of thorny bush or rub his head on a poisonous plant or something? We just moved to this property in the late fall so I haven't time before winter to inspect plants trees, although tehre are only 2 or 3 in the run. The other male is out there andat first I thought they could have fought, but I see no puncture wounds. I washed his head and cut the fur down as far as he'd let me. His temp is 103.9, 130 lb dog. He's eating and drinking & moving around fine and active, but I can tell he's in a lot of pain. His eye practically glaze over when I try to treat this large wound. I used peroxide and triple anti-biotic ointment on it. He's really hurting. Can I give him aspirin? What do you think this is? It's pusing yellow too. Can he make it until tomorrow when the Vet opens?

If it is draining pus it sounds like it is infected, this explains why he seems in so much pain. Normal temperasture in dogs range between 100.5 to 102.5 degrees, so it appears he has fever, which may also indicate infection. He might need antibiotics, so I think seeing the vet is the best option.

He put his head in a patch of cockleburs, maybe? I once fell in a patch of them, and let me tell you, they're seriously poisonious in some way. I swelled up like crazy, and it hurt for weeks. I hope the vet can make him feel better, poor guy :( .
