Stiff / Sore hips in the morning

Hello all. My male boxer, Dexter will be 8 in October and he has been the perfect model of health. However, lately he has been pretty stiff/sore in his hips in the mornings. Sometimes we even have to help him stand. He does sleep on a bed, and once he's up and walking around he's ok. A quick nap on the living room floor doesn't seem to bother him much, it's the laying all night that gets him.
I was reading about advanced hip and joint chewable tablets with chondroitin sulfate, MSM, and glucosamine HCl for healthy joint support, and boswellia for comfort & mobility. (from Springtime).
I've also read that aspirin (in dosage based on weight) can help.
Anyone ever use either of these things, or any other advice on what I can use to help him in the mornings?
Thanks so much!!

I would consult with my vet before trying any over the counter medications, as some can be highly toxic to dogs. There are several newer NSAID types medication that have come out in the past few years, that have been used with good results.

As far as supplements go, my GSD gets the same human formulated one my husband takes. It's got roughly the same amounts of active ingredients, and is way cheaper.
I agree, speak with your vet about supplements and medication your dog can take. No supplement is going to completely alleviate the discomfort old dogs might feel from arthritis, so its important to speak with you vet about it even though this is probably a pretty normal issue for an older large dog.
