So, I was forwarded an email about an urgent 1-year-old Malamute mix that showed up in rescue nearby. He looks EXACTLY like a grey version of Bandit, and it's taking nearly all my willpower NOT to just go out and adopt him! He's the same age too, and it seriously has me wondering if they are littermates. He has the same square jaw, big old ears, and sweet expression as my boy.

What do you guys all do in this situation? I've worked in rescue before and passed other VERY nice animals by, but somehow, this one is absolutely killing me!

Just had to vent to people who would understand!

Oooh, I'm going through the same exact thing. There's a blind sheltie mix that's been living at a rescue facility since before last summer... of course, I noticed him before I adopted Bambi, but then it said "adoption pending" and I gave up. Now that I have three dogs, I can't get any more, but I want him soo badly!

In a situation like this, I either pester my father (because of the lack of a job and money, I have to stay with him and he sort of keeps me on a short leash, no pun intended) to let me have what I want or I moan and grown until I forget about it. Lol. Dogs really are like potato chips. You can't just have one! xD

You guys are supposed to be telling me, "You just got Bandit a few months ago, you're not supposed to be tempted right now!" You're all no help at all. :D

It's so bad that I know I won't even be able to sleep tonight, knowing that this guy is in urgent need and I feel hopelessly drawn to go help.

Maybe you could just foster him so you will know he is safe.... That is what I did with my Mia. Let's just say she is no longer a foster.

I'd like to help. Really I would. I told myself I'd stop with one dog, but I couldn't stop looking. And now I have Clayton as well.

I must stop with two, though. Really. LOL!

Good luck. Maybe you could foster him . . .

Seriously, if he is in a kill shelter you may be able to at least foster him until he finds a good home. If you find he fits into your home you may decide to keep him, either way he gets a second chance at life.

Fostering is an excellent idea, but unfortunately DH knows the drill as I've fostered before. ;) He knows that "foster" and "adopt" are practically interchangeable in this house... particularly because my last foster was the kind who is nearly impossible to adopt out (a wolfdog with behavioral issues), and was expected to stay indefinitely, before he sadly passed away.

I don't believe he's in a kill shelter - the email said that his foster parent was moving away and unable to hold onto him any longer, and that they had no other places for him to go... I don't know if he'd go back to the shelter or if it's a kill facility or not.

I might call his contact tomorrow and ask more questions. My mom actually expressed an interest in adopting him, so that would be best of both worlds for me. :D

OK, so I know posting this pic will mean the kiss of death for my willpower (because once you all see how cute he is, you'll be clamoring for me to go help him!!) - but here goes...

He looks sooo much like my Bandit:

We keep saying, no more pets! We had 2 dogs and 4 cats (all rescues). I say we "had" because last night we got another rescue. A very neglected black lab that is the sweetest boy. My husband and I just can't say no. I devote my time to my pets now. It's basically my second job.

My mom is still interested, so I went ahead and left a message and email for this guy's contact. There are a few questions she needs answered before she can make a decision, but - fingers crossed! :)
