My 8 month old Toller is on her 20th day of heat.

I am calling day one when we noticed her scooting and licking excessively, and day two when she started leaving red drops and was heavily swollen and red.
Does that sound about right, making today 20?

The red went away on day 8, and the swelling has been down for a couple days. Is she done?

I have read that the only way to tell for sure is when boys are no longer interested in her; but no dog has even looked at her despite a couple hour long walks every day, so that test isn't available.

It seems pretty safe now, but I really really don't want puppies. The breeder said to figure 21 days, but she also said she would try to escape and I was likely to be bitten by an amorous boy if I took her for a wall; and she was wrong about those.

Anytime I have had a female in heat, I allow at least three weeks of keeping her away from males, then I take her and give her a good bath to get rid of any odor, even then I watch her for another week and don't leave her loose with a male. If there is a male around you can really tell as she will snap and growl if he tries to sniff her. Some females can be really sneaky and stand for a male even at three weeks especially if it is their first heat.
