Slipping on floors

My 18 month old Labradoodle has started slipping on my vinyl floors and hence is hesitant to walk around this area. He was fine until now and used to run and play everywhere. If I put boots on his feet, he will walk confidently, even if it is just one boot. At times he forgets and walks normally across, especially if he is excited about food etc. how do I work around this. His nails are clipped and hair around his paws are cut short.

Can you put a throw rug or runner in the area that he needs to walk across? Slipping on a smooth floor is a true concern for a dog, and can lead them to being scared or actually even hurt themselves.
That is what I am considering, it is behavior that just developed around 3 weeks ago..
