Hi, we recently adopted a rescue dog. She is a 10 month old female mixed breed. For the most part she is well behaved with the usual kinks that come along with a shelter dog you dont know much about. But our main problem is kinda funky. She is about 50/50 when meeting people if she will growl and sorta bark while being obviously scared at a distance and then be friendly once she gets close enough to touch and smell the person. She does this with both new people and my girlfriend who she is already very comfortable with. Just today I was walking toward her and she was growling at me until I got up close and she could smell me. My first though was bad vision, but she can see a squirel and a ball from far away. And it happens with both women and men. Any thoughts on what the trigger is or any ways to work on it?
