Hello - I’m new to the forum and looking forward to hearing any ideas that can help.

Got a new 10 wk old pup a month ago. 1/2 black lab 1/2 black German Shepard. Person I got him from gave first set of shots. Two days after bringing him home he started vomiting with diarrhea. He tested positive for Parvo and spent 2 days at the hospital. Got him home and still diarrhea but now bloody but my vet wouldn’t test his stools for another week. Spent that week giving sub q fluids and bully ade. He still had appetite and playful. Finally tested stool and was positive for Coccidia so started those meds for 3 days. Poops formed up after 3 days but then he started having neurological symptoms and can’t keep his balance. Vet treating him for meningitis and tested for distemper. They really don’t know and I’m already $2,000 in the hold and can’t afford MRI or Spinal Tap. He’s no longer the same active pup, has moments of play but can’t keep his balance and falls over a lot but he does try. He sleeps most of the day.

Does anyone have any ideas??? I’m at a loss and concerned for his quality of life. He has improve but barely after 3 days of new meds. Concerned this is permanent and my heart is so broken, he’s very sweet.

Any thoughts please?

Thanks!

Parvo is very devastating. Couple that with the other ailments and possible complications. Only the Vet can provide a prognosis.

Unfortunately, I hope the prognosis is positive, but I have my doubts.

Hope you have a good outcome.

Thank you for responding, Distemper test came back negative thank goodness so vet thinking might be inflammation around brain due to meningitis or some parasite so added another antibiotic for the parasites and Prednisone for the inflammation. We’re trying to cover all the bases. He was a little more playful yesterday afternoon. so I’m hopeful and trying to stay positive. He’s a fighter so I’m trying too :)

Oh thank you for asking! Puppy has made a full recovery after a full month of being very ill. Almost lost him twice but now ok. He’s finishing up the last bit of prednisone and should be done by end of this week. After being hospitalized for the Parvo I couldn’t afford the mri to diagnose the neurological issues so they treated him for parasites in the brain and meningitis. One or both of those meds worked! I am now finally enjoying the new puppy life, thank goodness!

Glad to hear he's on the mend.
