Aww it's Sarge! How's he doing?
Oh, he's fine, Hey Shadow...
How are the pups.. Bonnie and.. Rascal?
They're fine too, we're just trying to train them on the leash.
What about the other one?
Maggie is great!

I'm not exaggerating when I say call Maggie "the other one." No one likes Maggie. They're afraid of her or they just don't trust her. They think she's a demon. But ever since I first saw her twinge of fear aggression I made sure to help her. Months later, and a new gentle leader, she can walk on a leash, meet other dogs (as long as they're not energetic) and is better at passing by people without freaking out. I've had a friend over once, never met her and I told her to ignore Maggie. After that, Maggie loved her. She rolled over and licked her and just kissed her to death! She loved the kids too... the one time they came over to our house.

My sisters don't like her and thanks to my Vet tech sister, they all think she's dangerous. Maggie has been with random dogs running around before. She's been around random people and I taught her patience (though she is very hard to train that way) and to sit and wait.

I'm tired of people hating her! I could understand if she was trying to kill another dog or trying to bite people and children, but she doesn't do that. Heck, we have had dogs on our street that have attacked people and dogs and yet they have names!

Nobody likes Maggie... :(

My mother does the same thing to one of my cats...royally ticks me off.

"Where's the fat one?"
"She has a name >.< It's Kida."

Perhaps I'm particularly sensitive because that's how kids referred to me in school...I didn't have a name. I was "the fat one"

Doesn't matter how many times I say her name, nobody respects Kida. They just call her "the fat cat" or "the weird one".

OMG, I'm guilty of doing that with my own dogs. We have Fraggle, Angel and "The puppies", who are now 2 years old for crying out loud. My bad. I do however call them by name when interacting with them, it just seems such a lot to say when we speak of our dogs. I know, I'm lazy lol.

I do it to my kids and dogs...if they do something that irritates me it's "Hey uhm...Matt...Sean...YOU!"

Nobody remembers my dogs name either though.

But it's different when it's your family and they're kidding. When it's friends/people you know really well that you KNOW know your pets' names...it's insulting...and hurtful :(

mmy friend's dog has fear agression issues and he growled at her aunt once and now even though he likes her aunt her aunt still dosn't like or trust him.

mind you I don't trust her dog eather, except with people he knows. I would never trust him around strangers who wanted to hug him becuase I would put my money on him biting them. but he's fine when people ignore him first and pet later.

I had the opposite kind of thing happen to me. x.x

When Merlin first showed up in the pasture, I wasn't sure whether or not we would find his parents, so I just called him "Bird dog." No one ever claimed him, and even then, I wasn't sure we were his new "forever" home.

It turned out that he's now ours. My mom is the one who got all over me for calling him that, and decided he deserved a name.

On the other hand, she is the same one that comes to my house and asks, "Where's chubby?" when only one of the twin cats is in the living room. o_O And yes, she knows their names and can tell them apart...
