Our Pom is seven months old and still wets right before the back door. We can take her right out and then a few minutes she does it later. Recently went to a relatives house and she had no problem. Our carpet is beginning to smell. We have put various products on it to try to get the smell out. Just bought another item at the store tonight but gad, it is driving us crazy. Any ideas?

Going by the door is a good sign...she knows she should go outside but, hasn't been taught to let you know. Some people hang a bell by the door or they teach the dog to bark, scratch or whine (whatever seems to be easier for the dog to do).

For the carpet, be sure to use an enzyme cleaner like Natures Miracle that completely destroys the odor.

How are you suppose to teach them to bark or whatever? She does bark a lot when she sees something out the front door so barking is not always a good sign.

When she's at the door ...get her excited, knock on the door, make a face that she always barks at, run around her...whatever it takes...even 1 small bark is a start. You praise and immediately open the door and herd her to the potty area.
