My 9 mos old Shih Tzu is scratching terribly. She is current on Advantage, no visible fleas, bathed in Oatmeal Shampoo with Relieve for itching. Can I give her Benedryl? how much? is something better? I started her on 1/4 tab of Tums twice a day for eye stains, is it likely that this is a reaction to that?

Zoey had a similar problem with scratching all the time.. what worked for us was adding a capsule of fish oil to her food once a day, and bathing her with Eqyss Micro-Tek shampoo. It's a wonderful shampoo. It's very gentle and won't dry out their skin or coat, and leaves it smelling great and very soft! After three baths (once a week following the instructions) she never scratched again! I heard about the shampoo on this thread: http://www.dogforums.com/4-dog-grooming-forum/45440-eqyss-microtek-shampoo-spray.html Great stuff!

I get mine from http://www.arcatapet.com/item.cfm?cat=5442 for $11.81 +shipping.. it's the cheapest one I've found.

What are you feeding your dog? It could be an allergic reaction to something in the food.
