Hi
My 4 month old golden retriever boy got nipped today by another dog at the beach and now he has a scratch right middle on his nose bridge :( it’s superficial cut and did not bleed at all. We took him to vet for a check right after the incident ; She reassured us it doesn’t need any kind of treatments but the scar probably will remain:(

Does anyone have a same experience?
Is there any thing I can do to help the healing process?

Update on February 2021: his wound healed almost completely and there is not much to see. I put aloe vera on it in the first week and tried to keep it clean. Nothing else!

It will probably get less noticeable as he grows. My pittie has a similar scar, right next to her eye, but in her case, it blends in with her brindle marking, and if you didn't know it was there, you wouldn't even see it.

My dog has a puncture wound on his theigh, that he recieved in August. I put some natural dog products soothing ointment on it, its still there (hair has a hard time growing on scars) but unless you looked real close, you wouldn't notice. Goldens are long haired dogs, I suspect your dogs hair will completly cover your dogs scar. Some aloe vera may help the scarring go down.

Vitamin E oil ?

In the past I've used the gel caps. Poke them with a pin to create a small hole then gently squeeze the cap and apply to affected area. There may be more specific, liquid topicals available now. Check with your local pharmacy.

I cannot vouch for the actual efficacy of this type of treatment, beyond my own anecdotes. If I recall correctly it seemed to minimize the scarring on a show prospect puppy I had. Your mileage may vary. Whether it helps in your dog's case, I can't say. But I don't think it could hurt.

I have used Calendula gel or cream on minor wounds for myself and my dogs...it really seems to help them heal well. Our accident prone dog caught her side on a landscaping brick while running like a maniac (got a huge, deep gash) and after she had the staples removed, I used the calendula gel faithfully. All her hair grew back, and no scar that I can find. She also ran through a barbed wire fence while, once again running like a maniac, and I used the gel...it healed really quickly, and only left a tiny spot where her skin pigment it a little darker. I'd bet it'll heal fine without any help though, puppies recover quickly!
