Hello! First time poster. My family adopted a 10 month old Saint Bernard puppy named Titus about a month ago with the understanding that he was good with children. There is some expected puppy mouthing and barking for attention we're working through, but yesterday we let him off leash to run and play in the back yard for a bit. When he saw my 4 year old daughter running, he started circling/barking/jumping and grabbed her by the arm and took her down. She was terrified (as was I). He repeated the same behavior with myself and wife. I've done some looking online and most forums say to ignore until he cools off, then reward for good behavior. The puppy is 91 lbs already so ignoring is fairly difficult in the moment, I'm hoping we can start working on better off leash manners immediately. Has anyone experienced this with a large breed puppy and if so how did you address? Any tips you can provide would be tremendously appreciated.

Hi,
I know this reply is 8 months late :) , but I have a similar-is situation with my newly adopted 4 y.o. St Bernard (female). She is reacting to high pith vocal noises made by my kids (playful screams, squeals etc..) and she will bark at them. I don't think the barking is aggressive in retrospect as she wags her tail and her demeanour is not 'attack mode'. My working theory right now (she is only with us a little ore than 2 weeks so far), is that she is not very socialised with kids (and adult males).
Have you had any luck the last months in training your pup?
